Maruti Suzuki India on Monday said the production at its plant in Gurgaon has been impacted due to strike at Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd (SPIL), which supplies engines to MSI.
In a filing to the BSE on Monday, Maruti Suzuki India said Suzuki Motor Corporation's stake in MSI has increased to 56.2 per cent from 54.2 per cent due to a share swap agreement with the domestic car market leader to acquire Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd.
India's passenger vehicle (PV) industry is projected to experience moderated growth in FY27, following a strong rebound in H2FY26, primarily due to the high base effect, absorbed pent-up demand, and the lingering impact of geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
Talks between the management and striking workers at the Manesar plant broke down.
The company has been hit hard, not only by strike of its own workers, but also due to the supply shortage of engines and transmissions from Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd.
Workers at Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd and Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd, who have also gone on strike in support of their colleagues at MSI, are continuing their stir.
The department had also said it would initiate action to derecognise the unions of SPIL and SMIPL.
"The Manesar plant remains captive in the hands of workers. There is no production possible there. Due to the impact of components from SPIL, production at Gurgaon will be even lower compared to yesterday," a Maruti Suzuki India spokesperson said.
The strike by workers at Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd in support of their colleagues at the Manesar plant has made the situation even more precarious for the Maruti Suzuki India management.
Between January and August 2025, over 65,000 units of the Bolero were sold, making it the third-highest contributor to Mahindra's overall SUV sales. Bolero annually achieves sales of over 1 lakh units.
Indian passenger vehicles market registered record wholesales of 43 lakh units in 2024, with companies like market leader Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, and Kia posting their best-ever annual domestic sales. The continued growth of SUVs, along with rural markets playing a key role in driving up car sales, helped the industry better the previous best of nearly 41.1 lakh units posted in 2023.
The model, which will compete with the likes of Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Skoda Rapid, now features smart devices ecosystem including Alexa remote capability and 32 connected features as standard feature across all variants with a five-year free subscription.
